Twitter Acquired Fabula AI to Continue Its Push Toward Platform Health – Adweek

Fabula AI has been developing deep learning machine learning technology to help identify fake news and other online disinformation by analyzing how the content spreads and who is doing the spreading.

Twitter chief technology officer Parag Agrawal said in a blog post that the team from Fabula AI will join the social network’s Cortex team of machine learning engineers, data scientists and researchers, which is tasked with advancing machine learning inside and outside of Twitter.

Agrawal said the initial focus when the Fabula AI joins Twitter will be on improving the health of the conversation on its platform, with future initiatives to include helping to prevent spam and abuse.

Fabula AI was co-founded by Michael Bronstein, Damon Mannion, Federico Monti and Ernesto Schmitt, and it is currently led by chief scientist Bronstein and chief technologist Monti.

Agrawal wrote in the blog post, “This strategic investment in graph deep learning research, technology and talent will be a key driver as we work to help people feel safe on Twitter and help them see relevant information. Specifically, by studying and understanding the Twitter graph—comprised of the millions of tweets, retweets and likes shared on Twitter every day—we will be able to improve the health of the conversation, as well as products including the timeline, recommendations, the explore tab and the onboarding experience.”

Bronstein added, “We are really excited to join the ML research team at Twitter and work together to grow their team and capabilities. Specifically, we are looking forward to applying our graph deep learning techniques to improving the health of the conversation across the service.”
